Do ants sleep?

YES!

So this question came to me as I was driving back from the beach and was watching an ant wander aimlessly back and forth across the inside of my windshield. I think he eventually took a nap, as I lost track of him before we got home.

Apparently, worker ants sleep in shifts, so it may appear that they are always working. Queen ants can sleep as much as nine hours a day, while worker ants tend to take hundreds of tiny naps, multiple times throughout the day. And, yes, ants also hibernate during the winter, and that’s why we don’t see them or see less of them.

Some research has shown that worker ants can rest anywhere from 8 minutes every 12 hours to over 250 one minute naps in a day.
